Fairy Lights, Orchids & New Carpet

Hi guys,  We're in the last three days of Ramadhan already. How time flies! I pray that our ibadah will be accepted by Allah and may we continue our ibadah even after Ramadhan ends.   *** The past few weekends, I have been slowly prepping our home for Eid celebrations.  I put up some fairy lights last two weekends and oh-my-God the ambience it created was just super awesome. I have always love the ambience and feeling that fairy lights exudes. It's just so magical and romantic.  Whenever I walk by the hallway now, I feel like I'm in some enchanted forest somewhere. Haha. Ye, berangan lebih.  Ahh, super love.  That weekend too, we finally found our carpet! Hoooyeahhhhhhhh. I don't know who is more excited over this - myself for finally finding the carpet or my husband for the end to my constant whining. :p  Anyways, we found our carpet at the least expected place; Jalan TAR! Yeap, the place famous for its Jakels and...

Kwerkee - Indian Rugs

Okay, my quest to find the perfect rug/carpet has not ended, by the way. Nor have I forgotten about it. My bare living room floors are my constant painful reminder. Urgh. I'm subscribed to a lot of home decor and designs websites. And one of them is Kwerkee . This website is a sister website to Reebonz , the members-only shopping site for designer handbags and goods. Kwerkee works on the same principle, only they sell quirky (hence the name, get it?!) home and decor stuff. And now they are currently having a sale for Indian rugs! The colours and designs of the rugs are so beautiful! See some of my favourites, These carpets come in two sizes - 3ft by 5ft and 4ft by 6ft. I need 8ft by 5ft -_____- Oh well, not my rezeki. Maybe yours? Better hurry, these are only available for one more day. Your rug will be custom hand tufted for you after they have received the order and delivered in 21 business days. Prices are rm750 for the smaller one and rm1,035 for the bigger o...

SSF Carpets

Yesterday I dragged my husband to SSF Curtain Bandar Sri Damansara to have a look at their carpet collections. I know that they carry modern carpets since I got our existing one from there almost 3 years ago. In the car, my husband said, "I think we're gonna find one here!" Well, he was too optimistic. Because we left without a carpet. Sigh. This time around, SSF had a lot of those shaggy ones. Not my cup of tea. But, I notice that they are of really good quality as well, feels soft and lush. So if you're looking for those shaggy ones, go on to SSF. They were priced from rm1000+. Didn't check the exact pricing since I'm not into those shaggy kinda carpets. I found two designs that I like. And one that I was totally in love with. But they were all wrong. Sizing, colour, style - all does not fit into our home. This one is really lush. You can't really see it from the picture, but the colour of the roses are a mix of black, beige and grey. I love...

Jakel Carpets

Checked out Jakel collection of carpets today. They carry a limited range of modern rugs. And not the kind of modern rugs I love. I was looking for these. Source: Google Images  Source: Google Images They have these. -____- Source: Google Images Source: Google Images So, that is why I didn't take any pictures nor did I buy anything. So dissapointed. Nasib baik tak alih existing carpet into the study room.  For the limited collection, both design and colours (they only have brown and black #facepalm), Jakel's prices aren't that reasonable. For a 5' by 7', prices go for an average of RM1200. With that kind of money, I would go for SSF. So, carpet hunting continues. Sorry husband!

Fur for the feet!

We moved into our home about six months after we got married. And I'm still beautifying and improving it! Right now, I have an urgent need to replace my living room carpet. I love our carpet; it's modern, complements the colours of my living room perfectly and it has the right thickness. Buttt, the size is all wrong! Obviously, I had realised this when we first placed it on our living floor. See, we bought our carpet without measuring our living room first! Pakai agak2 je. Rookie mistake betul. And I have lived with that mistake for almost 3 years already. Recently, I re-arranged some furnitures that made that mistake more apparent. And I just cannot stand it. Been whatsapping "nak carpet!" to my husband everyday for the past few days. And he finally relented. Clearly, my persistence (or annoyance if you asked my Husband) paid off! Haha. So, this weekend we are carpet shopping! And I shall not make that same mistake again. Have measured my living area and save...

Hallway of Frames

The frames are finally up! Remember I spray painted the frames white in preparation of this? Yeah, I finally put them up two weeks ago. I really took my time doing this (almost 3 months!) and it is sooo worth it! I chose my pictures carefully, thought long and hard about the design of the picture mat and tried and photographed many frames arrangement! And here they are in our hallway. I couldn't be happier with the results! In case you're wondering, I didn't drill any holes in the wall. Did that before and felt that it was all a bit too messy. So this time around, I used 3M tapes for frames and they work like a charm! And since I'm in a sharing (and chatty) mood, this is how I ensure that I get my frames to be exactly where it should. I arranged everything that I want on that wall on the floor first. I measured the length and width of the wall and mirrored the measurements on the floor. I then measured the centre frame, the one with the...

Pretty Pastels

My lanterns , that is.  They are now in pink and mint. And absolutely pretty!  To recap, this is one of the lanterns in its original colour. Blue. Equals bleh.  Before giving them their final colours, I coat them with white paint first. I would have used a primer but the hardware store that I went to didn't have any. So I figured white spray paint would do. And it did.  I only did one coat of white paint on the lanterns and it did the job pretty well. I then spray painted the white-out lanterns in pink and mint, giving them 2-3 even coats per lantern.  And here they are in their new pretty colours! I am absolutely in love with them. Seriously, was grinning like an idiot all week!  I am especially in love with the mint one. Ahh, too pretty!  Originally, I wanted them for the balcony, but because they're oh-too-pretty, I placed them in the living room instead.  Already used them on one of our "date-nig...

AdzyHazaki, Artist

How cool would that title be, right?  I just finished a very very simple art. To call myself an artist is actually an insult to the real artists of this world.  There are so many talented people out there who can draw life-like portraits just by strokes of their pencils or paint 3D sculptures using spray paints; I can do neither.  However, I do try to use my right brain as much as I can. And today is one of those days.  It's far from perfect. But I'm loving the imperfections. I know I can do better, but for now, this one's a keeper.  :)

Journey of Lurveeee...

Did this today. That first picture is taken just a week after we first got together. That was in March 2005. And that last picture is our most recent, during Eid of this year. Oh how time flies! We've been through so much together. Daripada kurus kepada gemuk. Daripada muka muda remaja kepada muka matured (sikit). Dari Cardiff ke Kuala Lumpur. Daripada dating kepada berkahwin. :) I'm one lucky girl! (and he's an even luckier guy. Haha.) And this will now be on our gallery of frames.

Sassy with a touch of Boho

That's my style. And I think it's pretty spot on! I LOVE colours. I never can decide if I see something in an array of colours, I would want them all! But having said all that, my house is not all that sassy because 1) I live with my husband (who's not so sassy!) and 2) the place comes with built-ins and existing furnitures, which have been very challenging to work with. Slowly, very slowly, I'm making the house a little more homey for us. Take the quiz here !

Back to Black

Sometimes, you just need to go black. And this comes from a girl who LOVES colours! Did this for my friend. I had fun spray-painting mine that I volunteered to do hers. *perks of being my friend. Haha.* I first coat the frames in white before giving them a few coats of black. And whoa,  they look so awesome! I'm divided between the white and the black frames but Husband prefers the latter. I guess the next wall of frames will be in black then!

And they are done!

Yeap, I'm talking about the frames! They got their final coatings last night and threy're now ready to be put up on the wall. Just need to finalise my pattern mats and my pictures. For now, I'm just psyched with how they turned out! Selamat Hari Kebangsaan yang ke 55! Gotta love the long weekend!

Lanterns & Frames

I've been doing some small improvements around the home this past week. It all started with the frames arrangement in our hallway. You can actually see a peek of the frames here .  Not a great picture, I know. But, the arrangement was getting a bit boring and bare. So I decided to add on more frames and to change it up a bit. So, I had some existing frames in blue and an ornate mirror in pink on hand. Since I didn't want to get more Ikea white ones, I decided to just spray-paint them white. And here they are after the first coat. I have to say, the frames are looking awesome already. Since I live in a condo, I have to make do with the small space. Would love to have my own work space one day!  These babies are getting their final coat after this and then they'll be ready for hanging! On the same night, I also managed to turned two pelita minyak tanah into tealight lantern holders. So pretty kan? I just love candles, they really do transform your spac...

Crates Crazy!

Ohmygod!! This is exactly what I was thinking of doing for our home office!!!!! Ahhh, and to think that I got the inspiration without looking at any pictures/blogs/etc. I feel like I very creative like that. Anyhoos, mine hasn't materialized yet because I haven't found the crates in KL. I called up one of the wine shops (simply because they are the ones that use crates and would prolly have them) in Desa Sri Hartamas, but they said they don't keep theirs. ??!! I have to say, tho, that I haven't been trying hard enough. I could just drop by and ask from all these wine shops, Cold Storage etc. Okay, I am now driven to do so. After looking at the beautiful end product! Wish me luck in my search. If you know where I can get them, do tell! Thank you. Photo taken from Pinterest

Oh my Garden!

My new favourite spot in the house is currently my balcony cum "garden". Last two weeks, I dragged Mom to Sungai Buloh to get meself some plants. A lil bit of history - I tried caring for flowers before, but all died because one, I didnt water them *facepalm* and two because my balcony gets direct sunlight during the day. So none of those "feminine" flowers could stand the scorching sun. So, with all that in mind, I specifically wanted to get plants and flowers that are more "macho" against the sunlight. Went to the nursery and asked the abang to recommend me some "tahan panas" plants. And so far, my lil garden is looking so green and good! Ahhh, the flowers are blooming and the green plants are healthy looking! I bought some lanterns and have tea at the balcony these days. That was just so serene. Life's small lil pleasures. Oh, I also think that my talking to the flowers and plants help them grow. I think they love me talking to them, and ...

Vintage Vogue

I'm loving this 1941 Vogue cover. So chic & cool. It's now my office PC's wallpaper. Shall do the same for my Mackie once I'm home. Have a great weekend! xx

Lazy Bum

Just about sums up how I feel today. Hehe. Happy Sunday all :)

Life of a (Part Time) Housewife

Hi you-whose-about-to-get-married, I'm about to let you into a lil' secret. Just brace yourselves ok? Deep breath in, and fuh fuh... Okay, girls, after the beautiful wedding that you've been so hard-at-work planning, and the oh-so-dreamy honeymoon, marriage will settle in. I have been married 10 months now, and I will tell you, that married life has properly settled in! At least, the first part. And you know what that is? Housework!!!! The cleaning, the cooking, the dishes, the laundry and the IRONING! Add that to the fact that most of us are working from 9am to 6pm (8pm on bad days), these can be quite overwhelming. I have somewhat adjusted to the chores. Although, I think I was a bit more "Monica" during the first few months. Then, I realised I'm too tired to be all Monica about things. I used to iron my bed linens in those days! Now, I just stick to ironing the pillow cases. Of course, training the husband from Day 1 helps. My husband is...

Candlelight

I love candles! They are so great to create a soft and romantic ambience. They turn the room from bleh to beautiful! I have candles in my home. Some in the living room - great for those movie-night-in - and some in the bathrooms - a great de-stressing tool, just fill in your tub with your most expensive shower gel, and ahhhh, relaxxxx! I use mine so often that the candles are now half way down. And I need to get some new ones pronto. I want to get those really big fat ones. Just like this. or this one. I think they would be great for the living room and bedroom *wink* I also love the round ones in all sizes and colours. And the square ones too. Oh, and tealights as well! *haha, you get the idea, I love EVERYTHING candles!* They are also great to incorporate in weddings. And I think they can be quite a cheap-ish decor alternative. When I was planning for my wedding, before I even thought of having a decorator, I wanted to use a lot of candles in my wedding decor. I googled for bulk can...

MALM-ing!

Don't know what MALM is? Dont fret ... Here, meet MALM. Hehe, well you wouldn't have known unless you're an Ikea enthusiast! Well, we got ours during the FT holiday. Andddd only today, we (read: Husband) finally assembled it! That was after my constant yakking for the past 2 weeks! I felt a bit like YHL (that's YoungHouseLove , for those of you who aren't DIY-fans), helping Hubs with the MALM. There were screws everywhere, and we used the hammer and different kinds of screwdrivers. Okla, actually I slept for the first part. And when I woke up, the frame was already up! Hehe. All I had to do was hold the wood that makes the drawers together while Hubs screwed and hammered. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures during the hammering and the putting everything together. Well, because I slept. Haha. But, this is what I saw when I woke up. My hero hard at work all by himself, while his wife snoozed comfortably on the bed! Just look at his intense concentration! *g...
